God - War - Military

I was recently asked by an Army Officer how a Godly Christian can be in favor of a very strong military.  He asked with wonder how a devout Christian can be in favor of severe methods of interrogation?  He was surprised to hear that many Christians were in favor of remaining in Iraq when all others were scrambling, at all costs, to leave as quickly as they could against the warning that the resulting vacuum would be filled by radical extremists.

War, contrary to most liberal thinking, is not unbiblical.  Christians are in favor of defending the defenseless.  A large majority of Christians as well as most conservatives that are Christian believe in the need for a very strong military.  Nations need to be able to protect their governments, protect their citizens and protect their neighbors.  Our government, unfortunately over the past six years, has taken the stance that we need to downgrade our military.  The foreign policy ineptitude of our current President has made us a laughing stock around the world, and most importantly, to the specific nations of Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan.  In order for these types of nations to respect us they need to have a certain amount of fear of us.  Sadly, they no longer possess that fear nearly as much as they did in the past.  These countries have been greatly strengthening their militaries over the last ten years and we, therefore, still fear them and that fear is growing.

Then, there is Islamic Terrorism.  There is ISIS.   There are other radical groups spreading their fear and hate all over the globe.  They are murdering Christians and other innocents by the thousands and the liberals just stand by and watch, with concern, but not really wanting to actually jump in and defend the defenseless.  This happened once before after World War I.  Our country was tired of war.  We were content to just stand apart from the rest of the world and watch, thinking that we were invulnerable to attack.  All the while, in the 20’s and 30’s, Japan was hedging upon other lands.  They had expanded their territory and had acquired much east Asian lands, even as far as North Korea.  Germany had convinced other countries such as Austria, through political intrigue, to let them annex their lands in order to help them out economically.  They were on the move and ready to unleash their ultimate expansionist goals of overtaking all of Europe and possibly the whole world.

The United States was sleeping.  Our military had been diminished to pre-World War One levels.  We were wholly unprepared when we were attacked at Pearl Harbor.  Just as then, our military is being depleted to unprecedented levels because our current administration is negligent in recognizing worldly threats and the need to secure our nation by keeping our military very strong.  Our intelligence and containment capabilities are being undermined by the ceasing of certain interrogation activities and the closing of facilities such as Guantamamo Bay.  Instead of protecting our nation’s security by containing individuals and groups who threaten us, our government releases high ranking terrorists back into the Islamic killing stream to again lead future attacks against our nation.

Just as before, we are now merely watching with concern as Russia arrogantly hedges upon and annexes other nations.  Through these actions they are challenging the United States and then watching as we step back and cower in indecisiveness and fear.  They are learning that they no longer need to fear us and therefore they no longer respect us.  ISIS, as well, is overtaking Iraq and Syria with goals of conquering Jordan, Israel and beyond.  Iran goes on about its business of developing a nuclear weapon knowing that we will not actually step in to stop them.  In fact, we will actually help secure Iran by abandoning the only nation on the planet that has the audacity to attempt to destroy their nuclear facilities - Israel.

Listen to conservative Christian politicians.  For the most part, they were opposed to releasing the terrorists.  They also support the need for a strong military.  They support Israel and their right to defend themselves.  They support defending the defenseless all over the earth, even if it means “boots on the ground.”  God does not want anyone to just stand by and watch innocent people die.  We are watching Christians and other innocent people die and doing virtually nothing to stop it from happening.  We will soon be watching Jews die again as before and I am sure that our nation will just stand by and do nothing as our current administration is on the verge of abandoning Israel at the UN Security Council.

I am very sure that the great nation of the United States will soon be judged harshly for abandoning our neighbors in their time of need.  The Bible states that in the end times all nations will be watching (Israel) with concern, yet will provide no intervention.  That is ungodliness.  Seriously, who really has your back?  True Bible believing, authentic, Christians.
