Political Candidates - Discerning Good From Evil

I am aware that many of my friends, Christian or not, are intending to vote for Donald Trump.  People all over the nation are starving for a candidate that is different, more candid and less constrained by the old political rhetoric that gets pushed aside and thrown out upon nomination to office.  However, as I listen to his speeches, I get the impression that I am hearing the rants of an insolent child.  Donald may be bucking the current politically correct system, but are his intentions genuine?  Has he lied or has he been caught up in half truths.  Yes.  With every speech he makes, he strongly embellishes details and has spoken outright lies that need to be later supported or more to the point - corrected.  However, in most cases he is too arrogant to admit his errors.  He merely wiggles his way around admitting the truth just as any child would when caught up in a lie.  He belittles people and calls them names.  This is a presidential candidate of all things.  Should he not be held to the highest accountability of behavior?

Is Donald the only candidate who lies?  Of course not.  Hillary Clinton lies and then supports her lies with more lies.  Are the moral characters of the other candidates any better?  I would say, in some cases, yes.  However, sadly, the race is quickly becoming narrowed down to two people – Donald and Hillary.

On more than one occasion I have heard Donald flatly state that he is a Christian.  Yet, does he act Christian?  In Iowa he stated, “I’m a Christian.”  He was subsequently asked about forgiveness.  He said, “I’ve never asked God for forgiveness.”  Only a non-Christian who knows nothing about God’s plan for salvation would say such a thing.  He, in fact, is too arrogant to ask for forgiveness.  Could this man be a Christian?  I, myself, do not possess the capability of delving that far into the heart of a man to know without a doubt whether or not he is a true Christian.  Only God has that ability.  So, then, how can we therefore make a rational and fair decision about Donald’s character and possible Christianity?

The Bible does not leave us in the dark about how to discern good from evil when it comes to our fellow man.  Jesus told us how to discern true prophets from false prophets, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.  You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.   A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.   Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  Therefore by their fruits you will know them (Matthew 7:15-20).  A false prophet, in many cases, can speak very eloquently as well as exhibit a great deal of charisma but in fact is nothing less than a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  If a person can be deceived by such a petty individual as Donald Trump, imagine how many people will be deceived by the Anti-Christ when he makes his appearance.  He will be a man of great charisma and will accomplish great things, including reigning in a false, temporary peace in the Middle East.  He will provide many solutions to failing economies, including ushering in the One World Government’s Global Identity and Banking System.  Yet his true character will be plain to see if only one cares to examine his behavior and speech against the light of God’s Word.  This man whom the world will come to love and admire will eventually be responsible for the annihilation of nearly every Christian and Jew upon the planet – a virtual Hitler on steroids.

As much as we crave and desire change, voting for candidates who exhibit absolutely no true Biblical ethical behavior would be tragic.  When it comes down to the end and only Donald and Hillary remain, all I can say is, “God help us.”  He has given us what we wanted and judgment for our nation may be awaiting much sooner than later.
