In God's Trust

Is it Profitable to Study Bible Prophecy?

I regularly speak with individuals, in particular, Christians, who when presented with Bible prophecy say they “just don’t get into that.”  They admit knowing nothing and really don’t care to ever know anything about it.  They are content to live out the rest of their lives in complete ignorance, not only of their futures, but of God’s very Word.  What do I mean?  Since the Bible is actually close to 30% prophetic, how can one read the Bible and somehow skip, well, 30% of it.  Furthermore, the prophetic passages are not merely clumped up in one particular spot within the Bible.  They are spread throughout the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation – between 2500 and 3000 prophecies in all.

All of these books of the Bible, which were written over the course of several thousand years, perfectly blend together, complement and authenticate each other, melding themselves into one cohesive text.  Impossible?  Well, not with God.  The Bible is unique in that it was not written from the mind or heart of man.  These scriptures were God breathed and men wrote what was given to them -  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:21).  Out of all of these approximately 2500 prophecies, only around 500 are yet to be fulfilled.  So, since all of the approximately 2000 prior prophecies have been 100 percent perfectly fulfilled, without exception, how can one then read the Bible and somehow not only ignore prophecy but completely dismiss it as not beneficial for them to study?

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The Bible does not exclude nor state that any of its passages are worth less than any of the rest.  All is God breathed.  Read it.  Study it.  Let the very breath of God enter your hearts and teach you of His truths; of His righteousness; of His saving love that died in your places on the Cross of Calvary.  Let it teach you of our soon coming future and of the eternity that He has built for you in His Heavenly Kingdom.

Imagine, we have the opportunity to read the living Words of the actual creator of our entire universe and the One that breathed life into each and every one of us!  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1).  How can we ignore this opportunity each and every day by letting the Bible just sit, gathering dust upon our counters and night stands?  Seize upon and don’t lose this valuable chance to hear and learn from God Himself for He said to - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).  Give Him the opportunity to daily strengthen your faith in Him for …faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).
