Homosexuality and Christianity - The Coming Persecutions

What will soon happen if a church refuses to perform or host a wedding ceremony for same sex couples?  Well, in light of recent court rulings, I’d say that the churches and church leaders are going to be held accountable to the tune of large sums of cash, possible removal of exempt tax statuses, personal injury rulings against the leaders, jail time, etc., etc.  Why do I believe this?  Many businesses have recently been handed down very harsh judgments against them for discrimination toward gays and lesbians, possibly resulting in eventual jail time for non-compliance.

As in the case of the Oregon bakery case, the Christian owners have been ordered to pay $135,000 to a gay couple to cover their “personal injuries” resulting from being denied a cake for their wedding.  Their so called injuries included: high blood pressure, sleep disorders, migraine headaches, anxiety.  Really?  All this because they were refused a cake – one that they were able to immediately buy from another business with no problems.

The personal injuries are, however, very real for the owners of the bakery.  They have been dragged into a whole firestorm of a controversy where they are actually “feeling the hate” from a group of individuals who want to control the personal feelings, inner beliefs and subsequent actions of all others.  This Christian couple has been vilified as being homophobes and haters.  They have been boycotted and protested against as well as having had to suffer through much verbal abuse.  This Christian family has been on the verge of losing their business and paying this sum of money could bankrupt them – all over a cake.  If they refuse to pay the money, jail time could then be their fate.

Some have been saying, “They should have just made the cake.  What difference would it have made?”  Well, doing so would have violated their inner most Christian beliefs.  It is one thing to be on the sidelines watching what is occurring in today’s world with regard to same sex unions, but to be told that we need to actively jump in and support these practices is quite another.  The owners could not with clear conscience jump into the game and become a supporting member of their wedding.

By the court’s recent ruling regarding same sex marriage, any Christian beliefs that are contrary to the ruling will, no doubt, soon be deemed unconstitutional and illegal.  There will soon be more attempts to drag Christians from the sidelines to become active participants in the games.  True Christians who know that the acts of homosexuality are breaking the actual laws of God will increasingly become the victims; the injured; the bankrupt; the criminals facing jail and prison time.  In fact, many of those who are currently working in the professions of caterers, wedding planners, floral shop owners, counselors, chaplains, etc., are, right now, feeling the persecution of job loss and abuse.

Some say it is merely a ruling regarding marriage that will not affect Christians and their beliefs.  Is this true?  Absolutely not.  This one action by our nation’s justice system has immediately hastened many to jump on the bandwagon of support for the gay agenda.  More than ever, people and groups all over the country are openly voicing their overwhelming support, such as the liberal media, politicians and of course - Hollywood.  On a more personal level, you will find that many of your friends, family members and neighbors will be more open of their support which will bring the whole agenda right into your homes where it will cause divisions.  Sadly, some so-called Christian denominations have openly given their endorsement for the gay marriage ruling causing many members to depart from their churches.

Christians who believe that God’s Word is Law and that changing His stated Word would be horrifically wrong, are in for a long journey ahead of them.  However, we must, against all coming persecution, continue to stand against those practices that are contrary to the Laws of God – and having done all to stand, then just continue to STAND.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to STAND (Ephesians 6:10-13).
